Neukunft: Future, a home for unaccompanied, under-age refugees
Berlin | December 2015 - December 2016 | terre des hommes
In cooperation with terre des hommes, the Beurer-Foundation is trying to bridge the integration gap in areas where the city is lacking provisions. 40 unaccompanied, under-age refugees have already been housed in small family-like groups in Berlin and there are plans to house 10 more. Socio-cultural and pedagogical work aims to allow these young people to become accustomed to life in Germany and to integrate into society without sacrificing their own identity. Areas such as the arts, communication, sport and food are examined to find unifying factors and the young people are given opportunities to make contact with family. Work placements are also arranged. The partner organisation Wohnschiffprojekt Altona e.V also provides help for the young refugees.
